(A) Today we drive to London. We’ll return the rental car and check into a hotel near Heathrow Airport. We’d planned to visit the Tower of London, but we woke up to a flat tire.
Luckily, we were able to get to a tire shop with friendly staff and quick service. it all could have gone much worse.
To London!
We made it to London. We dropped the girls (and our bags) off at the hotel, and then Kim and I took the car to the rental office. We knew that we’d gone over our allotted miles to the tune of £600. But when we explained the flat tire situation, the manager said, “Let’s call it even.”
So that was a nice surprise. (The tire cost much less than that.)
Then we walked back to the hotel, which is only about a mile from the car rental place.
We just had dinner in the hotel sports bar. They feature burgers in the styles of some different U.S. states. And they have old western decor. It felt like a sports bar in the U.S., except that all the TVs were playing cricket. I guess we’re easing back into home-mode.
Early flight tomorrow. We fly to New York, with a layover in Portugal.
Fingers crossed…
