(A) Our good buddy Sterling needed a ride back to Edinburgh today, so we gave him one. We drove to a Park & Ride on the edge of town, and then took the tram in. Once we were there, we walked to Sterling’s hotel to drop off his suitcase. Thusly unencumbered, we headed out to find some hats!
Sterling and I like caps. And to have a cap from Scotland would be pretty cool. But although there were a few shops that looked promising, they didn’t have what we wanted. So that didn’t work out.
But you know what did work out? We met up with my friend Melissa, her mom, and her brother. They’re visiting Scotland for the next week or so, and arrived in Edinburgh yesterday. We wandered around with them until the heat became too much for us, at which point we found a place to get a cool drink.
We sort of wandered in and around the Old Town area. I didn’t take many pictures (most egregiously, nobody took one of my crew and Melissa’s crew and Sterling)… but here are a few…
The photo on the right is of Edinburgh Castle. It was fully booked today and tomorrow, which is just the excuse I needed for not walking up the hill in the heat.
One highlight was rubbing David Hume’s toe. He’s a well-known Scottish philosopher, and there’s a statue of him near the castle and the cathedral. It’s said that if you rub his toe, you’ll have good luck… or something like that. I’m not really sure how the magic works.
On our drive home we saw some lovely scenery, as usual.
